SS Martin of Tours and Veranus of Cavaillon

Today (11 November) in the calendar of early western saints, with the troparia provided on Acathistes et offices orthodoxes, we commemorate two early French bishops, SS Martin of Tours and Veranus of Cavaillon.

Your mercy toward the poor man without clothes gained you, O Martin,
The vision of Christ, who said to the angels,
‘Martin has clothed Me with this garment.’
Have mercy on us who are poor
And who have no good works to clothe ourselves,
And pray to the Lord of the Universe
That He have mercy on our souls.

– another troparion –

Ton 4

Burning with zeal for the true God,
You served him as a monk and priest;
You found in heaven the crown of the saints
And on earth great glory, O Martin;
To clothe a poor man you divided your cloak in two,
In which you then saw Christ clothed;
You bore the light of the faith into the countryside,
And many a city witnessed your miracles.
Father Martin, celebrated throughout the world
For your zeal as a pastor and your fervent love,
On behalf of our souls pray to
-composed by Hieromonk Denis Guillaume of blessed memory, 1994.

Tone 3 Troparion to St Veranus (Vrain, Wrain), bishop of Cavaillon (+ 4th c)
You lived as a hermit near Cavaillon
But the crowds, attracted by your fame,
Prompted you to flee, and you went to Rome.
Returning to your native country, you were made a bishop
And you governed your flock with wisdom.
St Veranus, intercede with God for us!
Holy Fathers Martin and Veranus, pray to God for us.
