troparia for 24 November

Today (24 November) is the feast of St Catherine of Alexandria; happy name-day to all Catherines of all spellings, and happy patronal feast to all churches dedicated to St Catherine, especially the monastery church of that name in Sinai – they celebrate it on the 25th, but liturgically the 25th starts this evening ūüėČ In the calendar of early western saints, with the troparia provided by M Lopez-Ginisty of Acathistes et offices orthodoxes, we commemorate SS Marin, Pour√ßain, Colman of Cloyne, Eanfleda Queen of Northumbria and Bieuzy.

Tone 1 Troparion to St Marinus of Maurienne (+731)
You lived in piety from your childhood
and were elevated to the priesthood in Rome.
In humility you fled to the region of Maurienne (Moriana),
Not wishing to be made a bishop,
And when the Saracens came to destroy everything,
You affirmed your faith and suffered martyrdom.

Ton 2 Tropaire à saint Pourçain, higoumène, (Natalice en 527 A.D.)

Tone 2 Troparion to St Portianus, abbot (+527)
You were the slave of a Visigoth master, *
Who abused you, and you fled seeking refuge *
In a monastery, where he came to find you.*
He resumed his abuse and he became blind.*
You healed him, and he freed you to become a monk.*
Saint Portianus, entreat the Lord for our souls!

Tone 3 Troparion to St Colman, bishop of Cloyne (+611)

You were born in the green isle of Ireland;
At Cashel, you became a royal bard and poet.
At the age of fifteen, you were baptised
At the hands of St Brendan, the great navigator.
Apostle to the Christians living in Limerick,
St Colman, pray to Christ for His mercy on us!

Tone 5 Troparion to St Bieuzy, martyr (+6th century)

Disciple of St Gildas, you built
A hermitage, in which you served God.
Through your prayers to Christ, you healed those with rabies.
During the Office, you refused to heal
The dogs of a lord, and, enraged, he killed you.
Holy Martyr Bieuzy, pray to the Lord for our souls!

Holy fathers of the Church, pray to God for us.
