troparia for 3 January

Today (3 January) in the calendar of early western saints and with the troparia provided at Acathistes et offices orthodoxes, we commemorate SS Genevieve of Paris, Bertilla and Anterus.

Tone 4 Troparion to St Genevieve of Paris (+512)
You received the blessing of the holy hierarch Germain
To lead the lead of a consecrated virgin.
By your prayers you turned away Attila,
And your reputation for holiness became so great
That St Simeon Stylites sent you greetings.
St Genevieve, pray for our salvation!

I have posted more about St Genevieve here and here, and today I thank her for the special grace of bringing M’sieu, who first introduced me to her, to visit from her own city of Paris on her feast day! I love when things like that happen. (And of course they would happen more often if I were better aware of the calendar…) What is it called? Not coincidence 🙂

Mais ayant dû te marier, tu as vécu*

Tone 2 Troparion to St Bertilla of Maroeuil (+687)
You destined yourself for Christ from a very young age,
But, being required to marry, you lived
In the love of Christ with your husband Guthland,
And when you became a widow, you withdrew
Into seclusion near the church at Maroeuil.
St Bertilla, pray to God for our salvation!

This Bertilla is not to be confused with Bertilla, abbess of Chelles.

Tone 6 Troparion to St Anterus, Orthodox Pope and martyr (+236)
Native of Greece, you succeeded Pontian.
You carefully collected the holy acts
Of the martyrs who had given their lives for Christ,
And gathered together their holy relics.
O St Anterus, glory of Orthodoxy,
Pray to the Lord that He have great mercy on us!

Holy mothers and fathers of the Church, pray to God for us.
