troparia for 9 January

Today (9 January) in the calendar of early western saints and with the troparia provided at Acathistes et offices orthodoxes, we commemorate SS Adrian of Canterbury, Marciana of Toledo, Paschasia of Dijon and Vaneng.

Ton 1 Tropaire à saint Adrien de Cantorbéry, higoumène, (Natalice en 710 A.D.)
D’origine berbère et moine en Italie,*
Tu allas en Angleterre à Cantorbéry,*
Et tu devins higoumène du monastère*
Qui avait été fondé par saint Augustin.*
Saint Adrien, formateur des clergés d’Europe,*
Prie Dieu qu’Il garde nos âmes dans Sa mercy!

Troparion in the first tone to St Adrian of Canterbury, abbot (+710)
Of Berber origin and then a monk in Italy,
You went to Canterbury in England
And became abbot of the monastery
Which had been founded by St Augustine.
St Adrian, trainer of the clergy of Europe,
Pray to God that he keep our souls in His mercy!

Troparion in the second tone to St Marciana, martyr (+ 4th c)
During the Decian persecutions,
You lived in Algeria in the faith of Christ.
As you did not wish to renounce the Master,
Though you were delivered up three times to the hands of the soldiers,
You perished by wild beasts with your honour intact.
Saint Marciana, pray to the Lord for our souls!

Troparion in the 3rd tone to St Pascasia of Dijon, martyr (+ 2nd c)
You offered hospitality to St Benignus,
The blessed apostle to the land of Burgundy,
And when he was put to death for the love of Christ,
You were condemned to be burned.
St Paschasia, pray to God for our salvation!

Troparion in the 4th tone to St Vaneng, servant of Christ (+688)
Friend of St Ouen, archbishop of Rouen,
And of St Wandregisilus, abbot of Fontenelles,
You governed the region of Caux justly,
And you built the monastery of Fécamp
Where you ended your life as a servant.
